Holy Spirit, lead us into doing the good that God has planned for us to do - that we would be able to do the will of our Father in Heaven like Jesus did. Lord Jesus, grant us courage and hope through our times of suffering for doing good. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.įor it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood. So he went and preached to the spirits in prison- those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong! Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. There is also an antitype which now saves us-baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him. Christ’s Suffering and Ours For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand-with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.įor it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits- to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. And this prefigured baptism, which now saves you-not the washing off of physical dirt but the pledge of a good conscience to God-through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who went into heaven and is at the right hand of God with angels and authorities and powers subject to him.įor it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. In the ark a few, that is eight souls, were delivered through water. Because Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring you to God, by being put to death in the flesh but by being made alive in the spirit. In it he went and preached to the spirits in prison, after they were disobedient long ago when God patiently waited in the days of Noah as an ark was being constructed. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if God wills it, than for doing evil.
